Company Evolution
LAKE Communications was founded in 1991 as a result of an MBO from Landis & Gyr, the Swiss multinational parent.
Throughout the 1990s LAKE built a leading market position in Europe, partnering with major brand channels such as KPN, BT, Belgacom & France Telecom to deliver advanced small business voice solutions. LAKE’s focus, in those days, was on winning market share as the operators rolled out ISDN services to their small business customer base. In 2000 LAKE turned it’s attention to building a successful business in Australia & the US. Today, in Australia, LAKE are partnering with Commander where we have a leading market position in the SOHO segment. In the US, LAKE developed a distribution relationship with Inter-Tel, in time, as the business evolved this relationship lead to the acquisition of LAKE in 2005.
Today, LAKE view the current technology migration to IP centric communication solutions as an enormous opportunity for our current & prospective channel partners. The challenge for LAKE is to develop new products that deliver the benefits of IP convergence in a cost effective user-friendly product. Ideally, our channels bundle LAKE’s products with a variety of network services to develop compelling customer propositions that excite the market.
LAKE commenced building IP technology & intellectual property in 1996 through three acquisitions, Cornel Electronics (DSP development) and Topology Ltd (Network integration) in 1996 & 1998 respectively. LAKE has continued the investment in the DSP technology business and today is supplying modem & voice storage application DSP software to major industry players.
In 2001, LAKE acquired the technology and assets of Home Wireless Networks Inc., together with its R&D facility. This acquisition included key intellectual property specifically, IP router, DECT & wireless LAN software stacks & expertise. This technology was subsequently transferred back to our R& D facility in Dublin.
In 2002, with the intellectual property acquired through purchase the of HWN, combined with the proceeds of the sale of the network integration business - €20M - LAKE developed a new generation product platform, OfficeLink.
In 2003, OfficeLink was launched in the UK & Australia where, within one year, it has established itself as a market leader in its segment. LAKE are now in the process of rolling out this new product to channels in the US, Italy, Spain & RSA in addition to developing an exciting set of product enhancements designed to add significant value to the application & generate additional sales.
In 2005 the Broadband Module was added to the OfficeLink solution. It offers powerful office connectivity, office interworking and broadband voice capabilities with its integrated wireless LAN, ADSL modem and firewall. In 2006 the Broadband Module was upgraded to support remote and home working giving OfficeLink customers even more flexbility.
Also in 2006 the Sigma product platform was launched. It was developed to cater for predominately wireless applications and is optimised, in terms of cost & capability, for the 2 -10 user segment. This segment includes Home Office, Small Office, and Networked home. The emphasis is on an integrated home/micro office applications such as micro PBX with wired & wireless extensions & broadband connectivity with wired & wireless home LAN based on 802.11b technology.
