Optional IP Module(s)

There are 2 variants of the IP Module expansion for the system offering varying degrees of complexity.

The Internet Module

The Internet Module is an optional system module that provides multi-user high-speed broadband Internet access using ADSL and ISDN. It also provides a Local Area Network, which allows users to network PCs and share printer and other resources within the office. It is easy to install and manage using the installation wizard and management system. It can be installed at the initial installation phase or added later.

Installation Wizard for Simple Configuration

The Installation Wizard is a simple to operate installation tool, which guides the installer or user through key system configuration detail. This may be used at installation or during the product life if for example you wish to change your Internet connection to an alternative Internet Service Provider.

Voice over IP

The Internet Module supports 2 channels of Voice over IP and when utilised with a VoIP Service Provider, 2 VoIP Trunks are provided to the PBX element of the system. These Trunks are handled in a similar fashion to a standard Analogue Line and may be used for incoming and outgoing calls via the VoIP Provider.

Outgoing calls may be specifically routed via IP Trunks by specific Line selection, or indeed through configuration of the Least Cost Routing table within the system to route calls to specific destinations over the service

Multi-user Internet access

The Internet Module allows all PC’s on the LAN to access the Internet through a single Internet connection using either ISDN (single or dual channel access) or ADSL. Up to 4 PC’s may connect directly to the in-built HUB in the Internet Module, additional PC’s may be connected using an industry standard HUB if required.

Local Area Networking

The router has a LAN (Local Area Network) which allows multiple PCs to connect to the Internet. It also allows users to network PCs and share printer and other resources.

The router has four 10/100 Auto-sensing switched Ethernet ports for connecting PCs or other devices. If more than four LAN devices are to be connected to the router, an external Ethernet hub or hubs can be connected to any or all of the ports to expand the LAN. The router can accommodate up to a total of 100 LAN devices.

ADSL Modem

The Internet Module has an integrated ADSL Modem and the services are defined in the Technical Appendices

ISDN Dial backup

In a system is equipped with ADSL and ISDN, the ISDN profile can be configured to provide dial backup in the event of ADSL line failure. If the ADSL line fails, an ISDN call is established and the router will attempt to re-establish the ADSL connection in the background..

ISDN

The Internet Module may use ISDN for all Internet Connectivity, or alternatively the ISDN may be configured as a fallback option in the event of loss of ADSL Connectivity. In either case the Internet Module shares the ISDN Network Interfaces of the main IP - Link System.

WAN IP Interface

The Internet Module also has a 100 base T WAN interface which provides the option to connect the system to an external ADSL Modem, Cable Modem or into an existing Corporate LAN (typically if being used simply as a Voice Gateway)

Firewall

The firewall consists of a stateful packet inspection engine, which is used to control the flow of traffic between the internal LAN, DMZ and the Internet. All traffic passing through the router can be examined and compared to a set of packet filtering rules. Traffic can be allowed to pass through, or it can be blocked depending on the rules defined by the user.

Firewall Services

The Firewall can offer independent rules on separate interfaces. There are 3 defined interfaces – LAN, WAN and DMZ (Demilitarised Zone). The Firewall is equipped with predefined rules for standard installations which can be applied by the user by selecting the options -–Low, Medium, High. In addition specific firewall rules may be modified as required.

In addition to the Firewall Packet Inspection, additional services including Denial of Service (DOS) and Intrusion Detection (IDS) are supported and may be configured by the user.

Remote Management

The Internet Module may be remotely accessed for configuration and diagnostics. This feature allows the system supplier to provide advanced support options to support the Data Network in addition to the system voice features

The Private Networking Module

The Private Networking Module provides all the services that are available in the Internet Module, but has specific additional services typically required in a Private IP Network. These additional functions are outlined below:

Voice over IP

The Private Networking Module supports 12 channels of Voice over IP and is typically used to carry Voice over a Private MPLS enabled IP Network. In addition to providing VoIP calls over the WAN, this version of the IP Module also provides for:

  • LAN IP extensions
  • Mobile IP Extensions (VoWLAN)
  • Remote IP Extensions

VPN Encryption

The Private Networking Module supports 16 concurrent VPN Tunnels allowing the module to provide termination of a VPN between customer sites over a Private or Public IP Network.

Wireless LAN

The Private Networking Module hosts an integrated 802.11g Wireless LAN Access Point. This integrated unit is powered from the system and can support up to 100 WLAN devices. Additional Access Points may be added to the system for extended range or coverage as required.

The WLAN AP supports the latest security standards including 128bit WEP and WPA.
